The Government of Thailand bestowed a coveted Award as "Thailand Best Friend" to the Stallion Group, a multinational conglomerate with presence in 18 countries including Middle East, Africa and Asia.
The Award was handed over by Thailand's Prime Minister Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva to Mr. Mahesh Vaswani, Group Managing Director, Stallion Group in a glittering ceremony held at the Thai Government House on August 4th, 2009.
The Award underlined Stallion's performance in acting as a premier business partner for Thailand while establishing its reputation as a fair player in its home markets of Africa including Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Senegal, Angola etc. Stallion played a stellar role in facilitating aversion of a food crisis in Africa in 2008 through timely imports of Thai rice into the import dependant economies.
The 40 year old Stallion Group, owned by the Vaswani Brothers (Sunil Vaswani, Haresh Vaswani and Mahesh Vaswani) emerged as the leading buyer of Thailand rice for their customers in Africa and Middle East, establishing their market leadership position for rice in several countries. Amongst the eminent international rice traders, Stallion was instrumental in promoting Thailand rice through their extensive sales and distribution infrastructure penetrating into African markets.
Accepting the Award, Mahesh Vaswani said "we are delighted to be accorded this valued recognition by the Government of Thailand. As large scale importers and investors in rice, we naturally view Thailand as a strategic partner and are grateful that Stallion has been endowed with this prestigious award." He also added "we hope to take this relationship with Thailand to much higher levels through other projects of common interest".
Stallion is also a major investor in agriculture and several other industries including plastics, motor vehicles, packaging, textiles, chemicals, food, building materials, real estate and fertilizers.
